almost a novelist

April 20, 2019 by Keith Griffith (Register to contact)

Finally did it and wrote a novel, partially set on the North Fork. Mummeries begins with a catchy question. What if the FBI didn't apprehend the saboteurs from the Nazi U-boat that landed on Long Island in June 1942? What if LI fell into the Nazi sphere along with present-day Britain?
My novel is an 187,000-word alternative-world "Twelfth Night" set in a modern-day Nazi-occupied region off Manhattan (plus Hitlerian Europe, the Japanese Pacific, and international settlement Morocco). An interconnected four-part picaresque tale whose lighter moments borrow not only the disguised male-attired heroine motif but also the wordplay and plot surprises so common in Shakespeare. It's as if the Bard himself wrote a satire on our current men's adventure stories.
It is a young woman-centered tale of thrills coupled with it being a humorous pastiche! With moments of doubt and weakness too.
